Tug Pilot Endorsement

Prerequisites

• Hold a BMAA flexwing PPL(D) restricted licence.
• Have logged 50 hours on flexwings.Your log book must be signed up to date
• A current valid medical certificate.
• Some hang gliding experience helps.
  

What you need to bring with you

• Water to drink and food to eat for each day of your course.
• Log book(s), Licences and Medical Certificate
• Association membership
• Your own Microlight, suitably permitted and equipped for aerotowing
• Additionally, if abroad abroad, Passport, Driving Licence, Accident insurance including repatriation, National insurance no E111 available from your post office.

What you will learn

• All aspects of aerotowing including the dangers and required emergency procedures with the aim of preparing you to be safe and efficient tug pilot capable of towing aloft both solo and dual hang gliders.
• The need to remain alert and fully aware so as to be able to continually respond to the needs of the towed glider.

The tasks you will need to complete

• Take off, Circuits and Landings with a tow line attached - min 2x.
• Make 30 towed flights with experienced pilots
• Make 10 tows with lower airtime pilots
• Pass a final assessment.

• Join BHPA APPROVED Aerotow Groups as a Tug Pilot

Course Timetable

• The course time-table always varies due to weather conditions and location.
  Morning and evening air is generally better for training as the air is calmer, therefore, it is necessary to discuss with your instructor his plan for the start time of your course.
