Prerequisites

  • An EP certificate in hill or tow

What you need to bring with you

  • Shoes for running with ankle support
  • Knee protection, Trousers or Jeans
  • Water to drink, food to eat, for each day of your course.
  • Log book, if you have one.
  • Association membership if you have it
  • Additionally, if you are flying with us outside the UK, Passport, Driving Licence, Accident insurance, including repatriation, along with your duly completed form E111 available from your post office.
  • Your own kit, if you have any.

What you will learn

  • Conversion to flying in the fully prone position.
  • You will learn about, and practice, incipient stalls, stalls and stall recovery the glider to normal flight.
  • Landing approach planning to make spot landings, on your feet, within a 25 meters of a designated spot.

The tasks you will need to complete

  • Make 15 school circuits
  • Fly fully prone in full control.
  • Make 3 spot landings with in a 25 metre disc.
  • Pass both the theory exam and final assessment.

Priviledges you will enjoy on obtaining this certificate/rating

  • Fly your own kit and join a tow club .
  • Fly unsupervised by an instructor

Course Timetable

  • The course time-table always varies due to weather conditions and location.
    Morning and evening air is generally better for training as the air is calmer, therefore, it is necessary to discuss with your instructor his plan for the start time of your course.

The next steps

  • Gain flying experience by flying within a club environment
  • Look into converting to alternative methods of launch through a recognised school
    For example Hill/Tow launch, Aerotow Launch or FLPA (foot launched power assisted)
  • Try different flight environments, initially under supervision, such as mountain flying, hill flying and coastal soaring.
  • Carry out and get signed off tasks required for your next rating
