Elementary Pilot Certificate (Tow)

Prerequisites
What you need to bring with you
- Shoes for running with ankle support
- Knee protection, Trousers or Jeans
- Water to drink, food to eat, for each day of your course.
- Log book, if you have one.
- Association membership if you have it
- Additionally, if you are flying with us outside the UK, Passport, Driving Licence, Accident insurance, including repatriation, along with your duly completed form E111 available from your post office.
What you will learn
- To fly a hang glider up to 200 feet or more on the tow line, to release from the tow line, circuit flying around, and landing back at, your takeoff point at our training site
The tasks you will need to complete
- Correctly rig and de-rig a glider with due care and attention
- Safely exercise to duties of 'Noseman'
- Thoroughly understand, and use, procedures for:
- Pre-Flight Checks
- Pre-Takoff Checks
- Flights
- Complete a minimum of 15 low flights
- Complete a minimum of 10 medium solo flights with a ground clearance of at leats 40ft
- Demonstrate 5 'Stand Up' landings within a designated area in light wind conditions
- Consistently demonstrate safe airspeed control
- Demonstrate the ability to execute shallow left and right turns
- Demonstrate the ability to evaluate sites and prevailing conditions and to formulate and execute simple flight plans
- Pass the BHPA EPC theory examination
- Pass a final assessment based on attitude and approach to safety and airmanship
Priviledges you will enjoy on obtaining this certificate/rating
- To be able to proceed onto the next stage of training, the CP rating, and to purchase your own equipment
Course Timetable
- The course time-table always varies due to weather conditions and location.
Morning and evening air is generally better for training as the air is calmer, therefore, it is necessary to discuss with your instructor his plan for the start time of your course.
